Why it matters

Three services that work together

Most accounting problems are really timing problems. Books that fall behind turn into a rushed year end. A rushed year end turns into a return the CRA wants a closer look at. Keeping the three connected is the point of doing them under one roof.

Alex Struk handles the work directly, so the person who reconciled your accounts in March is the person filing your return in June and answering the CRA letter in November. Nothing gets handed to a junior and nothing gets explained twice.

What it coversMonthly bookkeeping, reconciliation, financial statements, HST and payroll filing, year end preparation.T1 personal and T2 corporate returns, self-employed and rental income, year round tax planning.CRA review responses, audit representation, outstanding returns, notice of objection.
Who it is forIncorporated businesses, sole proprietors, and anyone whose records have fallen behind.Employees, self-employed people, and incorporated owners filing personal and corporate returns.Anyone who has received a CRA letter, or has years of returns still unfiled.
When you need itYour books are out of date, or you cannot tell what the business earned last month.A filing deadline is coming, or you want the salary and dividend split settled before year end.A letter arrived with a reply date, or the CRA has assessed you using its own figures.
What you send usBank and credit card statements, sales invoices, purchase receipts, payroll details.Slips, receipts for anything claimed, last notice of assessment, details of any property or investment sales. The CRA letter itself, the tax years involved, and the records behind the item under review.
Typical timingA monthly cycle. Catch-up work depends on how far behind the records are.Personal returns April 30. Self-employed June 15. Corporate six months after fiscal year end.Usually 30 days to reply. More time can be requested before that date passes.

Most clients use more than one. Bookkeeping through the year makes the return faster to prepare, and reconciled records shorten any CRA review.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

Which service do I need?

If your books are behind or you need statements, start with accounting. If a return needs filing, start with tax prep and planning. If the CRA has written to you, start with tax audit and review. If you are still unsure, describe the situation and we will point you to the right one.

What problems do people usually come to you with?

Three come up most often: several years of outstanding returns, a large balance owing to the CRA, and books and records that were never kept in order. We have helped clients recover tens of thousands of dollars in eligible HST and tax refunds while sorting those situations out.

Can I use more than one service?

Yes, and most clients do. Bookkeeping through the year makes the year end return faster to prepare, because the records are already clean when filing starts.

Do you work with both individuals and corporations?

Yes. Personal T1 returns, self-employed and rental income, and corporate T2 returns for incorporated businesses.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the work involved, so we quote after the first conversation. The consultation itself is free and there is no obligation.

Do I need to come to an office?

No. Clients across Toronto and the GTA are served the same way, and the first conversation can happen by phone or email.
