Income and expenses need to be tracked through the year, not reconstructed in June. We set up the recordkeeping, claim what you are entitled to, and file the self-employment return on time.

What a Scarborough business should expect.
Scarborough is the east end of the City of Toronto and was a city in its own right until it amalgamated into Toronto in 1998. It is a place of owner-operated retail, restaurants, trades and professional practices. The tax rules are the same federal and Ontario rules as everywhere else in the city. What changes the outcome is whether the books are current and whether someone is planning your position ahead of the deadlines rather than reacting to them.
- One accountant who knows your file, not a call centre queue
- Records kept current through the year, not reconstructed each spring
- Plain answers about what you owe and why
- Documents handled in person or remotely, whichever suits you
Deadlines
The dates that catch Scarborough businesses out.
Most penalties we see are not from getting the numbers wrong. They are from filing late. These are the standard deadlines by situation.
- April 30 - return due and any balance owing due.
- If April 30 lands on a weekend, the next business day applies.
- Slips such as T4s and RRSP receipts should be in hand before we file.
- June 15 - return due for you and your spouse or partner.
- April 30 - any balance owing is still due, even though the return is not.
- Instalments may apply if you owed tax in prior years.
- 6 months after year-end - corporate return due.
- 2 months after year-end - balance owing generally due; 3 months for many small Canadian-controlled private corporations.
- GST/HST deadlines depend on your reporting period: monthly, quarterly or annual.
